De relatief lage sensitiviteit en specificiteit van conventionele MRI zorgt voor suboptimale beeldvorming van het epileptogene gebied. 7T metabole MRI kan hier verandering in brengen door middel van een hogere magnetische veldsterkte en de mogelijkheid tot het afbeelden van specifieke moleculen/metabolieten die behoren tot het metabole fenotype van de oorzaak van de epilepsie.
